Audience Research Summary

I asked 10 people to fill out my questionnaire, which i done as paper copies because not everyone owns a computer or have internet so i will be able to get a broader range of answers. Before i gave the people the questionnaire to fill out i made sure i let them know that this question was for my media work, and that i was finding out what types of films they enjoy.

Out of all the people i asked 80% liked thriller films and 20% didn't. From the 40% of 36+'s i asked only 10% which were female didn't like thriller films and 10% of 21 to 35's which were male also didn't like thrillers, whereas the 40% of 16 to 20 years old which were half male and half female 100% liked thriller films. From where 16 to 20 year olds like thriller i also found out that only half of them watch murder mysteries. All of the 16 to 20's went to the cinema either often or sometimes, which means that if a new film is released out in cinema the mostly targeted audience would be 16 to 20. Also if the film is rated 15 people aged 16 to 20 would defiantly be able to get in to see the film. 70% of people mostly watched the genre of comedy, yet only 10% of these people which were female didn't like thrillers. Out of the 50% of people that said they sometimes watched scary films only 10% was 0 to 15, another 10% was 36+ and 30% were 16 to 20 and 20% were females in the 16 to 20 category and 30 where male. Therefore we now know that people 16 to 20 year olds are most likely to watch scary films. Finally out of all the people i asked 10% favourite film was in the genre of thriller, which were female.

I found out that are target audience would be 16 to 20 year olds from where they are more likely to watch thriller films and go to the cinema. Also 16 to 20 year olds are more likely to have money from where they may get EMA from collage or sixth form and may even have a part time job. Then because our target audience are 16 to 20 years old it would be good to make sure our opening sequence is suitable for people 15 and about, therefore rating it a 15.

It would have been a better questionnaire if we found out what kind of music our people like and made them tense, so we could incorporate it into our opening sequence and make sure we get the right feel to it.
